In February 2013, Allan Houston and Richard Komistek walked into a frost-covered field and stopped at a pile of hard dirt. The Tennessee men’s basketball legend and the board chairman of Knoxville Christian School have been friends for years. They, along with a few of their family members, bowed their heads in the cold.
“We decided to pray over the field,” Komistek said. “And good things happened.”
Knoxville Christian School dedicated the Wade and Allan Houston Courts on Monday, December 9, 2013. An afternoon ceremony on the campus of the private school was attended by the Houston family, students, teachers, board members, UT men’s basketball coach Cuonzo Martin, a handful of current Vol players and the construction crew that broke ground on the 9,500 square-foot gym in March.
“When you think about your name on a court, the years and years you put in to playing basketball and from the moment I can really remember my dad instructed me and now our names are together on a court,” said Allan Houston. “Not just on a court, but in a place where I great up, we have roots.”
The school said it decided to name the court after the Houston’s because they represent the same values the school promotes.
