Kay Wellons

Vice Principal – Elementary

Mrs. Kay Wellons was raised on a small farm, but her husband David says she quickly forgot the potato and green bean picking and vegetable canning when she became busy raising three sons and teaching school. Her youngest son, Douglas, attended Knoxville Christian School in the 1980’s. That introduction to Knoxville Christian left a big impression. After two decades teaching third and fourth grades, Kay became an assistant principal for three years and then a principal for eight years. Upon retiring from public school five years ago, Mrs. Wellons felt a tug at her heart to apply at Knoxville Christian School. She began to work as a substitute teacher and in after care at Knoxville Christian and quickly fell in love with the students, teachers, and staff. In 2019 she joined the Knights as Vice Principal of the elementary school.  She says her greatest reward is watching students flourish as they are guided by Christian teachers who love and care for them. One of her favorite quotes is by Perry G. Downs: “Helping people to know God and to be obedient to him is perhaps the greatest gift we can bestow. Understood in this way, Christian education can be one of the most compassionate ministries of the church.”
